Employment is a two-way street. You’re going to spend eight hours a day at working at this company and communicating with your co-workers. As an applicant, you work to showcase your skills and qualifications but also to assess whether the company and the role are a good fit for you. While a positive and enthusiastic interviewer can be a good sign, certain red flags can indicate that a job may not be the right fit.

Excessive Amount of Interviews. Interviews should be smooth and efficient for the candidate’s time. A process that requires an excessive number of interviews indicates that the organization might be overly consensus-driven. This suggests that decisions are made only when a large number of stakeholders have been consulted, which can lead to delays and inefficiencies. Organizations that cannot make timely decisions may struggle with internal alignment and clarity about roles and responsibilities.

The interviewer seems disinterested or unprepared. If the interviewer seems disinterested in what you have to say, or if they haven’t taken the time to review your resume or prepare for the interview, it can be a sign that the company doesn’t value its employees or its recruitment process. It can also be a sign that the interviewer is overworked and not motivated.
